On the 3rd July, 1883, the worst accident on the River Clyde took place at the yard of Alexander Stephens and Sons. That day was the the launch of the "SS Daphne", a 460 ton ship for the Glasgow - Londonderry Steam Packet Company, to carry livestock and pasengers between Glasgow and Northern Ireland. .............
